The 1904 Jack Daniel’s Gold Medal bottle was the inaugural release in the Gold Medal Series, debuting in 1996. It commemorates the most famous award in the distillery’s history: the gold medal for the world's best whiskey won at the St. Louis World's Fair. This was the first time Jack Daniel entered a competition, famously traveling to Missouri with his finest whiskey to prove that his charcoal-mellowed process from tiny Lynchburg, Tennessee, could compete with the world's most established brands.

This release is the cornerstone of the series and is highly recognizable by its pancake-style bottle shape, which mimics the design of the early 1900s. Like the rest of the series, this whiskey was bottled at 90 proof, offering a much richer and more intense profile than modern versions. It is characterized by deep notes of butterscotch and vanilla with a heavy, smoky oak finish that reflects the traditional distilling methods of that era.

For collectors, this is often considered the most essential bottle in the set. Because it was the first release, finding it in pristine condition with its original box and the numbered registration tag is a significant find for any whiskey enthusiast.

The Jack Daniel’s Gold Medal Series is a collection of seven commemorative bottles released between 1996 and 2006. Each bottle in the series celebrates a different gold medal won by the distillery at international competitions throughout its history.
