JACK DANIEL'S Gold Medal Series

The 1905 Jack Daniel’s Gold Medal was the second release in the distillery's limited commemorative series. It was released in 1997 to commemorate the distillery's first international gold medal, won at the World Exposition in Liege, Belgium. Following the success of the 1904 St. Louis World’s Fair, Jack Daniel was encouraged by a British friend, Mr. M. Hoctor, to enter this European competition, where he once again took the top prize.

The 1913 Jack Daniel’s Gold Medal bottle was the third release in the series, arriving in 1998. This edition commemorates the gold medal Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Whiskey won at the Universal Exposition in Ghent, Belgium. By this point in history, Jack Daniel had passed away, and the distillery was being operated by his nephew, Lem Motlow, who continued the tradition of entering international competitions to maintain the brand’s global prestige.

This edition celebrates the gold medal awarded at the Anglo-American Exposition held in London, England. The 1915 Jack Daniel’s Gold Medal bottle was released in 2002 as the fifth installment in the series. It commemorates the award received from the Institute of Hygiene in London, England. This medal was particularly prestigious because it focused on the "purity and quality" of the whiskey, providing a scientific endorsement of the charcoal-mellowing process that Jack Daniel had perfected decades earlier.

The Jack Daniel’s Gold Medal Series Vintage 1954 is the sixth bottle in the seven-part commemorative series. Released in 2005, it honors the distillery’s "Star of Excellence" award won at a whiskey competition in Brussels, Belgium, in 1954.

This bottle is famous for the story of Herb Fanning, a long-time distillery employee. When asked to send samples to the 1954 Brussels competition, Fanning simply grabbed three random bottles from the regular production line. When marketing staff questioned why he didn’t select a "special" whiskey for such a prestigious event, he famously replied, "Why, all Jack Daniel’s is special!"

The Jack Daniel’s Gold Medal Series Vintage 1981 is the seventh and final bottle in the commemorative series. Released in 2006, it celebrates the "Grand Gold Medal with Palm Leaves"—the top honor awarded to Jack Daniel’s at the Institut Pour Les Selections De La Qualité in Brussels, Belgium, in 1981.

This medal was particularly prestigious because it was the first international competition the distillery had entered in 27 years. It served as a definitive statement by the distillery that, despite massive global growth and changes in ownership since the 1950s, their traditional standards remained unchanged.
