It was distilled back in 1985 during a tumultuous, historic era when the distillery cut back production and built its modern stillhouse. Because production slowed so heavily during those years, this expression represents some of the absolute last spirit ever made using Laphroaig’s traditional, old-world setup. They only released 400 bottles worldwide, making it one of the rarest official distillery bottlings to ever exist. It’s a massive unicorn that seven different distillery managers have overseen over nearly four decades of aging.
