Crown Royal Cask No. 16

With Fall quickly approaching it marks the time of seasonal change, so we decided to “change” it up and offer two unique expressions from Canada's best-known distillery, Crown Royal Cask No. 16 and Orphan Barrel’s Entrapment!

Crown Royal created Cask No. 16 using oak barrels made from trees owned exclusively by Remy Martin in the Limousin forest of France. Using barrels that have held cognac for 12 years, they then age over fifty different whiskies individually before selection and blending. With its cognac finish, Cask No. 16 combines the luxurious taste of cognac with the flavorful and lingering taste experience of Crown Royal to form an incredible liquid.

The result is as unique as the process creating a one of a kind whiskey blend varietal that will excite the palates of those who have a taste for Canadian whiskey!

The Orphan Barrel series has built its success on bottling lost and/or forgotten barrels from prominent distilleries, all of which are limited edition or one-time releases. While some may be skeptical about the marketing campaign, there's no denying these whiskeys have been extremely well received. Almost all of the Orphan Barrels carry 20+ year age-statements, which is rare these days in American whiskey, and are relatively affordable on release. When you take all of these factors into consideration, the demand for their line of products comes as no surprise, as they're appealing to enthusiasts and collectors alike.

As mentioned, the Orphan Barrel range typically features American whiskey (i.e., bourbon), but Entrapment is a 25-YEAR Canadian Whiskey from Crown Royal and is the first non-American release from this brand!

“Distilled in 1992, Entrapment was originally due to be included in a batch of Crown Royal Deluxe, however the spirit never made it into the blend and has instead spent the last 25 years maturing at the distillery in Gimli, Manitoba. These barrels aren’t necessarily forgotten, but instead not chosen for another blend, becoming almost hidden treasures.”

Tasting Notes:
Entrapment is made of a mash of 97% corn and 3% malted barley giving the whisky aromas of “vanilla, toffee, and a delicate toasted oak scent. Entrapment tastes light and creamy with hints of tobacco and walnut. The finish is warm with notes of dried fruits reminiscent of plums and raisins.”
