William Larue Weller

Today, we're going to start things off with a crowd-pleaser, and feature the Bourbons from the highly sought after William Larue Weller line. Currently distilled and bottled by Buffalo Trace (although not always so...), these bourbons have become highly sought after because they share the same mashbill as the coveted Pappy van Winkles!

The entire Weller line are wheated whiskeys, meaning the rye-component of these bourbons have been replaced with wheat. Traditionally, bourbons are distilled from a combination of corn, rye, & barley. Replacing the rye, which contributes spice characteristics to a whisky, with wheat yields a sweeter aromatic and flavor profile with less "bite". It's this replacement of rye with wheat that's made Pappy van Winkle what it is!

W.L. WELLER Special Reserve: Bottled at 90 proof, this bourbon stands out with its burnt orange color. Its softer flavor notes make this bourbon great for sipping or making cocktails.

W.L. WELLER 12-Year: This twelve year old W.L. Weller is aged far longer than most wheated bourbons. This offering is a smooth, easy-going and balanced offering with a beautiful deep bronze color.

“Aromas of lanolin, almond, creamed corn, and toasty vanilla. The mid-palate flavor is heavily wheated, layered, and moderately sweet. Long, oaky, and intensely smooth finish.”

WILLIAM LARUE WELLER: Uncut and unfiltered, this hand-bottled bourbon is barrel proof!
